This home is embedded on a Pohutukawa laden hilly landscape. Built in the 1970s, it was constructed to follow the shape of the land it is built on.
From the street the facade is that of a double garage which was, up until recent weeks, white with forest green. The home was a neutral colour. The entrance to the home had a neutral saloon gate, a stair case walkway that was chopped up by forest green and white. The stairs were natural concrete.
The Prior family wanted the facade to be colourful and cheerful, inspired by daffodils. They wanted to create a unique feel in the main entrance way so decided to paint the walls Resene Explorer to match the garage and garage doors painted about a month and a half ago, and the body of the home, Resene Bali Hai. The saloon gates have been painted Resene Happy, which is welcoming and inviting, a nod to springtime cheer.
This home is a work in progress. The plan is to paint the fence (currently neutral) a very dark grey or black. The interior is slowly changing from cream to Resene Quarter Napa walls with Resene Napa doors and trim.
The dark entranceway lets you discover the home at the bottom of the stairs. The home’s colour palette makes you feels like being on summer holiday. The darker colour appears as if it is the shadow of the light blue. The cohesive colours are restful and tie in with the coastal water view while not blending in to the hills or following the trend of neutral. They were tempted to paint the gate Resene Pohutukawa but red is a common trend and is the colour of most front doors and garage doors, so they chose Resene Happy for something a little different. The garage doors are Resene Explorer to help camouflage them.
Thanks to the Prior family.
