Colours bring the cohesion

The Hazelhurst family are addicted home renovators and bought this house five years ago.

This villa had suffered the fate of many old homes where original features had been mucked about with and removed, so they had a porch at the front but no fretwork, a mix of window styles included original sash, brown aluminium and louvre, and a steep drop off on the section which gave the house the appearance of a concrete bunker from the back garden! The garage was unpainted roughcast and the roughcast and pebble dash house was covered in moss, lichen and mould.

They wanted the house to look classical but felt with many of the architectural details missing, a heritage scheme probably wasn't going to work.

They ended up choosing Resene Lumbersider CoolColour tinted to Resene Revolver with white trim and windows. To achieve uniformity they sprayed the brown aluminium windows white after etch priming them first. The wooden windows were finished in white Resene Lustacryl. The house eaves were painted Resene Grey Suit and the doors painted in black Resene Super Gloss enamel.

To add interest on the front porch they masked off squares which were alternately painted in Resene Lumbersider Black and Resene Half Stack. The back steps were painted in Resene Super Gloss white with a custom mixed dark grey application of Resene Non-Skid Deck & Path paint on the trends.

The colours have turned a mix of different features from different eras into a cohesive home they love and one that brings many compliments from neighbours.
