Leaving cream behind

Upon viewing the place Andrea now calls home, she instantly knew it was for her from the excellent downtown location to the spacious flow of the inside layout – it suited perfectly.

Leaving cream behind

Unfortunately, the interior colour scheme left a lot to be desired. The same cream was everywhere: from the garage, entrance, all the way upstairs through to the bathroom, bedrooms and living area. There was no escape. The potential was there to modernise the colour scheme and make it her own.

There was a bit of friendly competition from the new neighbours who were also redecorating the place they had just purchased and had moved into not long before Andrea did. This added to the passion and motivation to transform the interior. After a few months of very busy weekends painting, decorating and other DIY, everything came together exactly as Andrea had planned.

The bedroom was transformed first, spurred by having to look up in the mornings at the dirty, cream patched ceiling above cream walls and cream wardrobe doors. Resene Lola was chosen for the main bedroom. It is a feminine, soft colour that went with existing furnishings while not being an overly cool colour.

Next were the main living, kitchen areas. It was a choice between Resene Iron and Resene Geyser, both chosen to complement an existing benchtop and painting. The slightly lighter colour shade Resene Geyser won. It gives off a slight blue hue depending on the light which corresponds nicely with Resene Lola in the distance. This was finished off by adding Resene Quarter Surrender on the doors, architraves, skirting and book/display case in the dining area.

The downstairs office/spare room has been the latest room to undergo transformation. With no natural light, it needed something that was light and bright. Resene Half Moonbeam was perfect, making it brighter and cleaner looking. Another Resene Lustacryl Quarter Surrender painted bookcase features against the Resene Half Moonbeam wall.

The biggest challenge was the height due to the sloping ceilings above the kitchen cupboards and especially the height of the stairwell from entrance hallway.

Resene Zylone Sheen finish was used throughout on the walls and ceiling. Resene Lustacryl was used for the doors and trims for the glossier finish.
