Katie and Julian’s home, which they have had for a little over five years, overlooks the sea in Nelson. It has in the past been reclad on three sides with sheets of faux brick cladding and any woodwork stained brown. The deck is fibreglass and had artificial turf/grass/outdoor carpet glued to it.
The deck sliding doors were bronze aluminium and the other windows in the upper storey were mainly ill-fitting wooden ones. Katie and Julian wondered how they could improve the look of the house and started by removing some of the cladding at the back to see what was there.
They were delighted to find the original weatherboards and they were dry and sound. The main damage was from the nails used to affix the cladding.
The project began by having the upper story double glazed and the sliding door replaced by one with no vision rail to impair the view.
The windows are powder coated in pearl glaze and Resene Lustacryl was used to paint the window frames. Weatherboards have been painted in Resene Lumbersider in Resene Regent Grey. Katie and Julian used several different testpots from Resene before choosing the final colour. They painted several boards at the front of the house in different colours to see the effect of light at different times of the day on each of the colours.
The deck and paths have been painted in Resene Traffic using Resene Non-Skid Deck & Path.
Thanks to Katie and Julian.
