Donna’s house was built in 1990 and in the last three years, she decided to turn the house into an art gallery to display her late partner’s art and other art she likes. It is open to the public.
A 1.5 x 8m extension was added to the front of the house, the kitchen and bathrooms have also been updated and all the interior has been repainted.
Donna worked with a limited colour palette on the interior so as not to compete with the art.
She also wanted to have a positive negative thing happening. The bathrooms carry this theme through. The ceilings and most of the walls, shelves and cupboards are painted Resene Hint Of Grey and the feature walls are Resene Blackjack. The bedrooms are painted Resene Foggy Grey on all the walls and ceiling. The middle cube downstairs is a large cupboard for coats and storage. This is painted Resene Half Chicago as Donna wanted a colour to match the metal staircase and to be a transition from the white and charcoal.
The exterior balcony, garage and back gallery are painted Resene Blackjack to link in with the interior. Resene Blackjack has proved to be perfect as it looks good on the outside as well as the inside.
The Resene Foggy Grey in the bedrooms looks completely different from each other because the upstairs has a sloping ceiling and Matai floorboards whereas the downstairs bedroom has a black concrete floor and flat ceiling.
Donna used Resene SpaceCote Flat for everything as there is a lot of light in the house and she doesn’t like shiny walls.
Thanks to Donna
