This is a mid-century former Lands and Survey farmhouse on the Okahukura Peninsula. The McConnell family have owned it for four years, and in that time have worked from taking it from a plain but practical farmhouse to a fun, colourful and practical holiday home.
Okahukura actually means ‘Place of Rainbows’ so that has been one of the key themes they have followed in the renovation. Brett is the design team and renovator all rolled into one, spending a lot of time researching magazines and the internet to get inspiration. And then he does the hard yards of making his ideas come to fruition.
Resene paints have been used on all the interior walls and the exterior, which Brett finished painting in Resene Forest Green.
The lounge and kitchen are open plan and have been painted in Resene Eighth Lemon Grass, a colour that also continues into the hallway.
They also decided to paint a rope in Resene West Side to create a fun feature, which they have tied around a poplar visible as you drive up. In light of recent events, it now has the nickname ‘the Trump Tree’.
One of the reasons the McConnell family chose to use Resene paints, apart from the excellent quality, is the support that is provided by the Resene consultants. Brett has been able to email in photos with his ideas and receive excellent suggestions and advice.
Thanks to the McConnell family.
