The Maxwell family spent 18 months renovating their home - originally built in 1973 by architect Ron Sang.
Looking at the historical pictures from the 70s (with gloss brown ceilings and shag pile carpet!) gave them inspiration to do something different. They decided on doing the very bold choice of black ceilings with white walls using Resene Bokara Grey and Resene Quarter Rice Cake, using Resene SpaceCote Flat.
Negative detail and full height doors meant the painters had to do the entire upstairs non-stop in a single go, as there were no breaks between rooms. The full-height glazing meant critical lighting across the ceilings would show up any imperfections, so extra care was needed on the plaster finish and undercoat products used.
The end result is really stunning; everybody who visits the house comments on it. It’s a clean look of black and white with metallic accents for the lighting!
The doors are Resene Friar Grey, and the concrete plaster work is Resene Quarter Friar Grey. The single black wall in the bedroom looks striking.
Thanks to the Maxwell family.
