Bharti was renovating her newly purchased home and wanted a fresh new look both inside and outside. It is an old 1900s home located in Wellington.
She wanted to maintain the house’s historic look and remain sympathetic to the surrounding homes while making it look fresh and bright. Bharti was challenged with choosing colours suitable for wooden houses, which wouldn't damage the wood and would provide longevity under the harsh sun.
Once Bharti had settled on the colour blue she was astounded with the number of shades available. Bharti used the Resene website as well as trying many Resene testpots to determine which colour would be best. The exterior was painted Resene Comfort Zone with Resene Black White for the windows and trim and Resene Blue Night for the front door.
For the interior Bharti wanted a light neutral colour to brighten up the house and make the small rooms feel open and airy. She chose Resene Half Thorndon Cream for the walls, Resene Alabaster for the trim and Resene Half Alabaster for the ceiling. As there was no existing furniture to match to and no definite decisions on what the furniture would be, these colours provided a nice neutral palette as a base to work from.
The kitchen splashback is finished in Resene Smokescreen, which helped tie a little of the exterior to the interior without overwhelming the space.
Thanks to Bharti.
