Barb and Dave embarked on a total house and garden makeover that has taken three years to complete. 95% of the work they have done themselves.
Previously painted pink, they changed the exterior of the cottage to Resene All Black with wooden windows in Resene Grey Chateau to match the large aluminium bi-fold doors. This has effectively highlighted the look of the silver corrugated steel.
The kitchen/living room ceiling is finished in Resene Quarter Thorndon Cream, with walls and skirting in Resene Half Thorndon Cream. The upcycled table was completed using Resene Double Thorndon Cream.
The bedroom was painted in quarter strength Resene Sidecar with Resene Half Thorndon Cream for the ceiling, leading to an ensuite in lighter Resene Quarter Thorndon Cream.
Upstairs, the living area was painted Resene Half Thorndon Cream. The ceiling was a mixture of full paint and a whitewashed look over the ply using Resene Thorndon Cream. The garage/recreation area was also painted using the same colour scheme.
The kitchen, dining and living room walls were painted a combination of Resene White Pointer and Resene Double White Pointer, with cupboards in Resene White Pointer. They were previously a mustard yellow colour. Resene Cello was used as an accent colour.
Moving onto the main house, the once pinky exterior was painted, along with the garden sheds and even the water tanks, with Resene All Black.
The main entrance and hallway walls were painted with a combination of Resene White Pointer and Resene Half White Pointer. Previously being grey and yellow, the new change of colour made a huge difference to the light in the home. A feature wall in the lounge and in the entrance was painted Resene Double Napa. A colour match was made up by Resene to match the original pale beige skirting boards.
The laundry and bathroom were painted Resene Tea, while the ceilings in these rooms were painted Resene Half White Pointer.
The bathrooms were painted with Resene Lemon Grass. This was an original colour in the house. The cabinets (previously honey coloured ply) were painted with Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer, then Resene Half White Pointer. Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer was also used to paint over the picture tiles before painting with Resene Lemon Grass.
Resene Half White Pointer was used on the first two bedroom ceilings, while Resene Casper was used for the walls in the first room and Resene Double White Pointer in the second bedroom. The master bedroom is matching the ensuite with Resene Lemon Grass. The feature wall in this room is Resene Blue Knight. Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer was used to paint the small drawer set in the master bedroom. It was then painted with Resene White Pointer as were the two cane chairs.
Because they wanted a complete monotone look in the studio wing, they needed this room to feel light, warm and bright. They used Resene Half Thorndon Cream on the walls and Resene Quarter Thorndon Cream on the ceilings in the ensuite and in the bedroom/living area. It had previously been a cold grey/blue.
The wardrobe was painted with Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer then Resene White Pointer, while the coffee table was whitewashed with Resene Double Thorndon Cream with a dash of Resene Sea Green.
The outdoor table and chairs were also whitewashed with Resene Double Thorndon Cream.
Thanks to Barb and Dave.
