Waiheke beckoned Tracy for a lifestyle change, a renovation project, and a hospitality venture.

Kiwi House is a three level hardboard and solid concrete home located in Oneroa village, the centre of Waiheke Island's blossoming tourist industry. It has been operated as a B&B for more than eighteen years under the same name, but the three month renovation has given this visitor facility a whole new lease of life.

Licensed to take 14 guests, Kiwi House has six bedrooms with a comparatively small 192 square metre footprint. Use of space is really the key to making this home work.

The renovation project included relining and insulation of walls and ceilings, new carpet, new window treatments, electrical work, restoring wooden floors, repairs to decks, and new paint.

Kiwi House is looking eye-catching from the road in Resene Clouded Blue (from the Karen Walker Paints collection), with the basement and roof in Resene Foundry CoolColour, Resene Quarter Stack for the decks, and Resene Alabaster for deck railings and windows.

The interior walls are Resene Quarter Truffle, with windows, doors and ceilings in Resene Quarter Rice Cake. The colour scheme for this was really important, and she found the advice of Deanna Hills and others at Resene Hamilton to be invaluable.

The entire decor feels crisp and clean, and guests frequently comment on Kiwi House's street appeal and how much they like the interior wall colour.
