Twinkle twinkle little starStarting a painting project partway through a pregnancy is a good time to call on the assistance of relatives, as Vanessa did when she redecorated her son's room. Inspired to decorate at 16 weeks, the relatives took charge of the painting completing the room before Vanessa's son was born.
Keen to use yellow, Vanessa found it difficult to find just the right colour, but eventually got what she was looking for through trial and error. The initial choice of Resene Energy Yellow proved to be too bright, but was recreated as the desired softer yellow mixed with white. While the final yellow was closer to Resene Quarter Energy Yellow, Vanessa was happy she was able to try out a range of yellows before settling on the right one for the walls and middle drawers. In a case of mum knows best, Vanessa's mum suggested she pick a lighter yellow on the colour card to ensure it would not look too intense once painted on the wall. Vanessa thought she had followed this advice so was surprised by how bright her choice was. Now Vanessa's advice to anyone planning to use yellow is that they should take care when choosing the yellow to use as it can become very overpowering once on the wall.
Blending beautifully with the yellow, Vanessa used Resene Danube for the ceiling decorated with glowing stars, planets and moons, and a subtler mix of Resene Half Danube on the drawers and cot ends to link all the elements of the room together. Red, blue and yellow animal decorated curtains and a duvet complete the look giving Vanessa's son a room to be proud of and one that can grow with him. Inspiration gallery 2003
