Ice cream inspiration

The Davidson-Harron family are slowly renovating a 1930s bach and decided to try something a little different on their hallway ceiling.

The happy palette of Resene Onepoto, Resene Dust Storm, Resene Knock Out and Resene Alabaster (which breaks and defines each colour) was inspired from a retro dairy Tip Top Ice-cream sign, an iconic Kiwi treasure bought off Trade Me which hangs in the lounge. It reminds you of childhood and those good old lazy summer days spent at the beach!

By taking the stripes along the ceiling and up the return to a high celestial window, it anchors the stripes giving them a finishing point as oppose to just floating. It also gives a great viewpoint from the opposite end of the hallway. The hallway comes directly off the living area so is visible from the main livingspace and all four bedrooms. It's a bright and cheery difference to most white ceilings!

Although it was hugely time consuming, measuring out each stripe, taping off and painting each colour - it was well worth all the effort.
