Kids first

With two growing children, each was offered the chance to have an individual colour scheme for their bedroom.

Starting with their daughter’s room first, she chose Resene De York and Resene Shocking and they used them creatively to make a bedroom space unlike any other they had seen. The doors, skirting and windows were painted in Resene Quarter Tea, which links them in well to the rest of the house finished in Resene Tea. They found a deep baby pink based wallpaper border with embossed hearts and vibrant pink heart motifs with a touch of metallic silver, which pick up the colour of Resene De York and reflect a nice tinge of the green. The whole paint project took around three days and their daughter was involved throughout, including helping to put paint on the wall.

Next it was onto their son’s room. As he is a bit older they wanted a colour scheme that would last him a few years from now and into his secondary school years without it being too grown up while maintaining a sense of fun and keeping it interesting. They decided to go with Resene Bounty and to split the room to incorporate half paint and half wallpaper with a border. The wallpaper, border and paint complement each other well.

A third room that was painted was the main family TV room. It had been painted Resene Tea but because there are French doors and a large window off to one side they found that it was quite a light room so decided to look at a darker colour on the walls. They picked out Resene Cobblestone. This time they decided to experiment with the ceiling, painting it in Resene Tea and the ornate scotia and the light dome with Resene Ceiling Flat white to freshen it up.
