Colour with a twistFor their 1925 bungalow the Harris’s wanted to put a twist on the traditional colour scheme, so chose Resene Pipi as the main exterior colour with Resene Pohutukawa and Resene Aviator trim. The front porch is stained in Resene Oiled Cedar with Resene Nero used on the door mat. They designed a new timber front fence, then used Resene Aviator to tie it in visually with the other boundary fences and to really make it pop. They love the fence colour – it’s like living in the ocean, and gives the garden a lot more interest. The brass house numbers (from the US) and oversized letter slot (with a custom designed letterbox behind!) really make it stand out. The vegetable and berry beds are another of their own designs, needing something practical that would still add to the look of the landscaping. The garden beds are finished in Resene Pipi with Resene Oiled Cedar wood stain. They hate beige with a passion, so their ‘neutral’ interior wall colour is Resene Hathaway – it adds lots of light and warmth to the interior, and works brilliantly with their art. The office has also just been renovated. They wanted a feature wall that would provide a focal point in a dark-ish room. Resene Gold Dust looks great with the timberwork, including the new shelves, which are made from wood salvaged from the old Farmers’ Santa’s Cave. The ceiling is finished in Resene Half Dutch White, which is also in the hallway.
