Hand deco-rated

This is a hand painted wooden kitchen made traditionally by a cabinetmaker out of NZ pine. It was part of a full renovation of a rundown 1930s bungalow. The Farthing family chose a traditional 1930s kitchen look but added modern contemporary colours not usually associated with kitchens - purple and turquoise. The turquoise colour was inspired by their collection of deco ceramics. The purple links into this theme with restored deco furniture at the other end of the room.

They chose to have a paint finish that would stand up to family living and so any dings can be easily repainted! Next to be added are stools finished in Resene Scandal and the installation of their collection of deco lamps to hang over the kitchen counter.

Resene SpaceCote Flat Fly Deterrent tinted to Resene Alabaster is on the ceilings and mouldings and is working well. Walls are Resene Buttery White from the Karen Walker Paints collection with kitchen cupboards in Resene Washed Green, also from the Karen Walker Paints range. Colour accents are Resene Centaurian on the tongue and groove shelves on the ‘family’ side of the kitchen and Resene Scandal on the shelf above the fridge and on the interior of upper cabinetry.

It’s a well thought out combination of colours, interesting and uplifting without being overpowering.
