Model house

Their home is an everchanging environment, which is constantly adapted to the moods of its inhabitants, so it might just get another new paint colour.

When the Bruce family emigrated they had a lot of hopes and dreams. Being able to build their own house exceeded those. After looking for a house for a year they realised they should be able to build their own. They found a nice sized section that they could only afford because of its weird triangular shape. This meant they couldn't just put any model house on it and presented them with the challenge of designing their own.

They didn't want the house in the middle of the section and then be left staring at their own fence. So, on a rainy Sunday afternoon they made their own design and then started looking for a builder who could realize it for them. This left them with the interior design to consider. They love light and colours and every room ended up with its own colour. They used Testpots and painted A3 pieces of cardboard to see how the light affected the rooms and which colour fitted each room best.

The base colour of the house is Resene Alabaster. After moving into the house, they decided to add Resene Cloud as a second base colour for contrast (doors) and to soften some walls.

They also used Resene Cloud to paint vertical stripes in the guest bathroom, which adds a lot of character to the room.

One wall in the lounge was originally painted in Resene Hot Chile red, but as spring arrived, they decided on a more cheerful colour and decided to paint it Resene Clockwork Orange instead. It really complements the red couch and painting.

They decided to also paint the bed and bedside cupboards in Resene Alabaster and then glued some Paua shells on the drawers. These reflect the purple Resene Tarot wall behind the bed of the master bedroom.

Dining

The guestroom has a Mediterranean feel due to the Resene Malibu blue wall. The opposite wall has a horizontal stripe with some wise proverbs on it, written in vertical lines.

The toilet door is in Resene Rose Of Sharon orange and the two welcoming doors to the kitchen are in Resene Wasabi green. The Cape Cod chairs have been finished in Resene Alabaster.

The project may not yet be finished. Their home is an everchanging environment, which is constantly adapted to the moods of its inhabitants, so it might just get another new paint colour.

Thanks to the Bruce family.
