Public choiceThis project started when the Hutt family bought the worst house in a good street only 200 metres from the beach. The house itself is a 1960s fibrolite bach that they bought the day they saw it during an open home. They knew this bach had something special but it just needed some love - and some paint! They wanted to give the timeless style of the bach a new, more contemporary look. While in Whangamata they spotted a bach that had a colour they both immediately loved, so they knocked on the door to ask. The owners were flattered and told them it was Resene Shark. The next step was to gather a range of Resene testpots, including Resene Shark and a bright red Holly's husband loved, and to paint testpatches on the house. To decide on the final colour they allowed people from the street to come and mark on the house their favourite colour. By public vote the Resene Shark won! They painted the bach over two weeks and were obsessed with it until it was done. Once finished they had lots of people knocking on their door, and even yelling from their cars as they drove past, that they loved the colour and the transformation of the old bach.
