Colours inspired by nature have a firm place in the work of these designers.

Hawke’s Bay based interior designers Vic Bibby and Dael Brady of Bibby & Brady have a hard time picking just one paint colour that they love but current favourites have a common theme: letting a little bit of nature into our lives.

What are your favourite Resene colours?

We have so many, it’s hard to narrow it down. We’re loving warm, earthy colours at the moment. It’s all about bringing a sense of nature into our lives. Resene Merino is a light, warm white with a green undertone which feels softer than a bright white. Resene Rascal is a gorgeous, sophisticated dusty brown with a hint of pink and Resene Xanadu is a mossy grey green which will bring the outdoors in.

Do you have any colour rules?

It’s important to use Resene colours that you love. Check your wardrobe to see what colours you’re drawn to. Dark colours are great to use in large spaces to help define them, or in small spaces to help them feel cosy and snug. Colours will evoke a feeling so think about how you want to feel in a space – calm, restful, energised.

Do you have a favourite style?

The best description might be “relaxed luxe”. We like to work with high quality materials, furniture and homewares and to achieve a sustainable design. We want rooms to be inviting, warm and livable. We like our homes to tell a story about the people who live there. We love watching a space transform and seeing how it changes clients’ lives for the better. Often people know what they like but they’re not sure how to translate that into a beautiful room, or they’re overwhelmed with the choices.
