Aqua is at the front edge of trending interior colours at the moment for walls, painted furniture, accents and even fabrics.
From light versions like Resene Freelance to saturated shades like Resene Deep Teal, you can almost never go wrong with opting to decorate with beautiful blue-greens like these.
When it comes to interior design, there are many things that can be done to change the atmosphere surrounding us but even something as simple as painting our walls can do a lot for turning a house into a place that we call home. Since aquas are often associated with everything peaceful and calming – the ocean, clear skies, and Mother Nature in general – it makes sense many decorators want to surround themselves with the colour that makes them feel at peace and reduce the stress of the breakneck pace of everyday life.
Aqua is the signature shade of stylist Megan Harrison-Turner, so she was over the moon when she was asked to create this smouldering lounge that incorporated her favourite colour into the design. She put together a sophisticated palette to complement pops of Resene Yowza – an all-star aqua – using deep emerald Resene Atlas, rich sapphire Resene Indian Ink and golden yellow Resene Cleopatra.
Blue, green and yellow complement each other as part of what’s called an analogous scheme; and while they are very different intensities, they create a kind of balance rather than clashing with one another, bringing out the best in each.
The dark walls in Resene Atlas with a door and architraves in Resene Indian Ink create a cocooning effect within the space, making it the perfect place to relax after a long day. The floor finished in Resene Colorwood Mid Greywash provides balance to keep the intensity of the colour from swallowing the space. The top of the coffee table pops in Resene Yowza while the legs have been painted watery Resene Wishing Well and this show-stopping rug from Designer Rugs mixes in a healthy dose of visual interest with it topographic texture. A mix of metallic accents in gold and copper and the petrol blue velvet sofa add to the luxury of the look while the vibrant accessories in Resene Cleopatra, Resene Wishing Well, Resene Yowza and Resene Freelance make the space a standout.
