Your entryway or mudroom is a pretty crucial spot in your house.
It’s the first point of contact with the place you call home – a spot to sit down, take off your shoes, and ease into the relaxed, at-home version of yourself. As a catchall for all your going-out essentials, it needs to be highly functional. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be a beautiful space, one that works hard while also welcoming you home.
Depending on the things and activities that are important to you, the needs for these spaces can vary greatly from person to person. You might be a fiend for shoes or sunnies, an avid cyclist, or perhaps you want to showcase your collection of handbags. It could even be as simple as having a dedicated spot to place your wallet and keys so that they never get misplaced.
These entryway ideas suit a whole range of needs using colours from the Resene Classics Collection – a specially curated collection of shades with staying power that look great in virtually any home.
The Bang Bang pegboard from George & Willy is painted Resene Neutral Bay and provides a landing place for coats, bags, scarves while the wire baskets in Resene Jaguar help keep clutter under control. They were painted using Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen, which can be written on with chalk and wiped clean with a wet cloth. That way, everyone can have their own personalised space to corral their smaller bits and bobs.
For those who prefer concealed storage, a repurposed toybox is strong enough to double as a bench with a couple coats of Resene Desperado on the lid and Resene Putty on the base.
Entryways that are extra tight on space call for extra creativity. Create this clever shoe storage solution which you can make yourself by painting PVC drainage pipe or mailing tubes in Resene Pewter and strapping them together with a long belt, ribbon or even coloured duct tape. By adding a chair in Resene Indian Ink with some larger, artfully-arranged wooden pegs painted Resene Twizel, Resene Desperado, Resene Pewter, Resene Putty and Resene Jaguar, this small space provides an impressive amount of storage for comings and goings.
