Weathered blues and whitewashed plywood create a soothing space to relax and read as we seek to escape the hectic, ultra-public and digtal world beyond the front door.
The space has a soft beachy eco vibe that would work with any interior, from the bach, and tiny home to a renovated mid-century home or new build.
The built-in bench seat brings an architectural dimension to the room, made of plywood and finished in Resene Colorwood Whitewash on the wall and benchseat top. The cupboards in front are finished in Resene Colorwood Greywash stain and Resene Raindance paint.
Keeping with the natural theme, the floorboards are in Resene Colorwood Natural wood stain, then protected with Resene Qristal ClearFloor.
Pull up a chair and add a coffee table painted in Resene Poured Milk (top) and Resene Quarter Baltic Sea (legs). The walls are painted in Resene Sea Fog as a cool-based white backdrop. These complex white changes with the light, looking shadowy or light depending on the direction of the sun.
Add a collection of ornaments painted in Resene Poured Milk (candlesticks), Resene Lazy River (honeycomb vase), Resene Raindance (textured vase) and Resene Influential (diamond-patterned pot).
Pale blues and weathered or whitewashed surfaces that seems to transcend the fashions. It’s why Resene Duck Egg Blue and its variants are some of the most sought-after colours in the Resene collection.
Calming and soothing, these are colours that whisper rather than shout. They remind us of cloudy skies, refreshing waters, icy slopes and delicate shells.
In a land where water is an ever-present natural feature and the sea is never far away, these colours hold an intrinsic nostalgic pull.
These soothing colours are easy to insert into most interior schemes, and in fact work superbly as neutrals. Palest watery blue works as replacements for icy white yet still allows stronger colours to come and go as accessories, or to marry with more grounded tones in warm brown and sandy taupes. They also become a powerful message as part of a tonal scheme, ranging from soft duck egg through to deep stormy blue or graphite.
Gently ethereal, these pale blues marry beautifully with waxed and chalky finishes, or matte paints such as Resene SpaceCote Flat which enhances the subtle beauty of the colours. Tactile accessories and texture are made for these colours whether it’s translucent sheer fabrics, rubbed metals, roughened basketry or aged timbers.
