If you’re looking for grey bedroom ideas, you’re in good company.
From atmospheric dark charcoals to light ashen hues, grey seems to be everyone’s colour of choice when it comes to decorating. High-street and designer outlets have cottoned on to this and are bursting with grey in all its multiple gradations and across every conceivable product – the only difficulty will be deciding what tone is the right fit for you.
Picking the ‘right’ grey for your walls can be rather like choosing a white paint – there are far more to sift through than you might ever imagine. To get the best look for your space, try out plenty of samples and see how they work in your space in different lighting before committing. Once you’ve narrowed it down to a few greys you like, pick up a few Resene testpots in your shortlisted hues. Paint the entire contents of each testpot on to a separate piece of A2-sized cardboard in two coats, leaving a unpainted border around the edges. Then, move the cardboard around the room at different times of the day and evening until you narrow them down to your top selection.
One of the joys of decorating with grey is its sheer versatility. Whatever look you want from your bedroom – from minimalist Scandi to dark and dramatic – grey has the potential to create a striking scheme, and it looks great in absolutely any style of room. If you prefer a modern bedroom, you may want deeper, more dramatic shades of grey. In a country, vintage or traditional bedroom scheme, try bringing in shades with gentle powdery undertones of blue, pink or green to temper the grey such as Resene Neutral Bay, Resene Pearl Bush or Resene Quarter Karaka.
Dark grey is a cosy choice for a bedroom. Wood panelled walls painted in Resene Armadillo, a serene shade of grey with a slight green undertone, provides the perfect backdrop for this sophisticated master bedroom with a nod to coastal style. The colour sits beautifully with timber flooring stained in Resene Colorwood Natural wood stain, organic-looking accessories and comforting textiles, creating a harmonious and restful scheme.
Resene Armadillo works particularly well with bluish greens, deep navy or light grey greens such as Resene Aquamarine, Resene Bunting or Resene Celeste. It also provides a fantastic contrast to bold patterns, such as the checked cushions, while the luxe olive green linen bedroom plays up the green undertones in the wall colour. Layering in painted furniture and small accessories in other grey, green and grey-green shades add depth to the look, increasing the level of cosiness, such as the chair in Resene Zeus, the bedside table in Resene Triple Tapa, the dresser in Resene Lichen, the tall vase in Resene Karaka, the jug vase in Resene Raptor, the small round vase in Resene Cobblestone, the tea light holder in Resene Half Nomad and the round woven plate wall hangings in Resene Quarter Gravel.
The short cylindrical vase in Resene Go Ben with an abstract hand painted design in Resene Cargo and Resene Beachcomber creates interest without distracting from the restfulness of the room.
To add further elegance, a simple LED lamp provides soft lighting solution with a refined, hotel-like appeal.
In the warmer months, try swapping in crisp white linens layered with soft grey cushions and thin throws for a polished look and go for lighter accessories in Resene Half Lemon Grass, Resene Joanna, Resene Half Linen. Or, try some soft dusted yellows like Resene Sandbar, Resene Hampton and Resene Chenin.
