Tactile, glossy and richly coloured wallpapers will give your interiors extra depth and a certain wow factor that's difficult to achieve any other way.

The dramatic and glamorous effects being created like layered metallics, embossed designs and shimmering patterns, are made possible by advances in printing technologies. Metallic wallpapers are fabulous in windowless rooms or spaces with low light as they help reflect the light.

Many of the wallpapers in this category come in moody, dark colourways or rich jewel tones. The designs draw from many inspirations – there are animal motifs, stylised botanic and textural treatments. With just a few rolls of wallpaper you can give a room the five-star hotel treatment.

Shimmer

Ever since their release, the captivating colours that make up the Resene FX Metallic paint range have been popular favourites for adding shimmer and shine to a wide range of different surfaces and substrates. But now, there's an option for adding these stunning special effects to walls, ceilings and other smooth surfaces: the Resene FX Metallics Wallpaper Collection.

All 45 metallic colours from the Resene FX Metallic and Special Effects colour chart are available as part of the Resene FX Metallics Wallpaper Collection. All the painting is done for you – all you need to do is prep, paste and hang. Metallic wallpapers using Resene Blast Grey 1 and Resene Aluminium suit an industrial style look, while wallpapers in Resene Sugar N Spice and Resene Yeehaa are ideal to add energy to children’s spaces. Metallic wallpapers add a luxe look to rooms and can help lighten up dark spaces as the metallic flakes will help to reflect whatever light is available.

• Read the instructions on the rear of the wallpaper label before starting.

• Whenever the surface you are about to wallpaper is discoloured, sunburnt or has water soluble stains, apply a full coat of Resene Sureseal (waterborne or solventborne) pigmented sealer to the entire surface. Once dry, sand the surface with 80 grit sandpaper to give a good key/grip for your size and paste to stick to. Dust the entire surface before continuing.

• Most modern wallpapers are strippable but when stripping an older wallpaper, use a wallpaper stripper such as Metylan Wallpaper Remover. Don’t use liquid detergent.

• Never assume that windows and doors are straight or true or that the height is the same all the way around the room. Always measure and use your plumbline (plumb bob) to ensure your wallpaper is hung true and straight.

• Before you begin, check your wallpaper roll by roll to ensure that you have the correct pattern, colour and sufficient quantity of the same lot number to complete this job.

• If defective wallpaper is discovered after hanging three lengths, stop and contact your Resene ColorShop.

• Change the water in the trough after every three lengths or 10 minutes.

• Do not use a seam roller and don’t apply too much pressure to the seams or you will squeeze out the paste and the edges will lift.

• Wipe off excess paste and water after each length. A towel under the water trough is a good idea.

• It is not necessary or recommended to repaste ready-pasted wallpaper.

• Carefully follow the Anaglypta and paint-on wallpaper hanging instructions to ensure a quality finish.

• Always allow wallpaper to dry naturally after hanging. Do not try to hurry the drying process by using a heater. Force drying the wallpaper will cause the joins to open during the drying process. In cold, damp, unventilated conditions, drying may take up to one week.
