It’s easy to transform a plain wicker chair into something special with Resene Waterborne Colorwood natural wood stain.
To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene Zylone Sheen tinted to Resene Sand and the skirting board with Resene Enamacryl tinted to Resene Alabaster.
Tips: For a paler look, try using Resene Waterborne Colorwood tinted to Resene Rock Salt or Resene Egg White.

Step one: Using a large artists’ brush apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Colorwood stain to the woven edge of the chair, as shown. Take care to get the wood stain right in to the gaps in the weave.
Step two: Stain the back of the chair, starting at the top edge and working down. Leave for up to 15 minutes, before wiping off excess stain with a soft cloth (make sure you wear latex gloves when you do this).
Step three: Continue to work your way down the arms of the chair, again, wiping off the excess Resene Waterborne Colorwood stain as you go.
Step four: Apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Colorwood stain to the legs and bamboo binding around the base of the chair, again leaving for up to 15 minutes before wiping off excess.

Step five: Work your way around the sides and back of the chair, as shown, continuing to wipe off the excess stain as you go.
Step six: Turn the chair over and repeat the process underneath.
Step seven: Check for any areas you may have missed and touch these up with a small amount of Resene Waterborne Colorwood stain, wiping off any excess.
Step eight: Leave for 48 hours to dry, and then apply 3-4 coats of Resene Aquaclear varnish, allowing two hours drying time between coats.
