Pine bookcase

Brighten up a plain pine bookcase using a vibrant orange from the Resene Colorwood range.

Fun with furniture with Mark Rayner - Project 45

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Clean cloths, paintbrush, paint stirrer, Resene Aquaclear gloss, Resene Colorwood tinted to Resene Satin Orange, rubber gloves, sandpaper, unpainted pine bookcase.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Half Duck Egg Blue.

Other ideas: For a more traditional look stain the bookcase with Resene Colorwood tinted to Resene Mahogany. Use Resene Aquaclear semi-gloss or satin for a lower sheen finish.

Clean the bookcase with a damp cloth and remove any stickers.
Step 2

Lightly sand the entire bookcase with a medium grade sandpaper.
Step 3

Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.
Step 4

Carefully stir the Resene Colorwood tinted to Resene Satin Orange.
Step 5

Apply one coat of Resene Colorwood tinted to Resene Satin Orange to the bookcase.
Step 6

Leave the Resene Colorwood for up to fifteen minutes before wiping off any excess with a clean cloth. Allow to dry.
Step 7
Step seven
Carefully stir the Resene Aquaclear.
Step 8
Step eight
Apply three coats of Resene Aquaclear to the bookcase, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
