Caravan cupboard

Transform an old varnished caravan cupboard into a retro gem with a little bit of help from Resene.

Fun with furniture with Mark Rayner - Project 42

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Clean cloth, caravan cupboard, paintbrushes, Resene Enamacryl tinted to Resene Sazerac, Resene Enamacryl tinted to Resene Suzie Q, Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer, Sandpaper.

To get the look: Mark varnished the wooden floorboards with Resene Qristal ClearFloor.

Other ideas: Opt for a different retro look using a combination of Resene Aqua and Resene Soft Mint.

Step 1

Remove the cupboard and drawer handles.
Step 2

Lightly sand the cupboard, drawer front and handles with sandpaper to ‘key’ the surface.
Step 3

Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.
Step 4

Apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer to the cupboard, drawer front and handles and allow to dry.
Step 5
Step five
Apply two coats of Resene Suzie Q to the drawer front, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 6
Step six
Apply two coats of Resene Suzie Q to the cupboard door, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 7
Step seven
Apply two coats of Resene Sazerac to the rest of the cupboard, including the handles. Allow two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 8
Step eight
Replace the cupboard and drawer handles.
