Wooden cabinet

Give a plain wooden cabinet an instant transformation using Resene Danska Teak Oil.

Fun with furniture with Mark Rayner - Project 23

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: unpainted wooden cabinet, clean cloths, latex gloves, paintbrush, paint stirrer and sandpaper. Resene Danska Teak Oil and Resene Mineral Turpentine.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Silver Chalice.

Other ideas: Use Resene Danska Teak Oil on plain plywood shelving to create a cool contemporary look.

Step 1

Step one
Lightly sand the cabinet in the direction of the wood grain, beginning with a medium grade sandpaper and finishing with a fine grade sandpaper.

Step 2

Step two
Wipe off any sanding dust with a clean cloth.

Step 3

Step three
Stir the Resene Danska Teak Oil.

Step 4

Step four
Turn the cabinet upside down and apply one coat of Resene Danska Teak Oil to the underside of the cabinet, brushing in the direction of the grain.

Step 5

Step five
Turn the cabinet the right way up and continue to apply the Resene Danska Teak Oil to the rest of the cabinet.

Step 6

Step six
Wearing a latex glove, carefully wipe off any excess Resene Danska Teak Oil using clean dry cloths. Allow to dry for 24 hours.

Step 7

Step seven
Wash brush in Resene Mineral Turpentine.

Step 8

Step eight

For safety reasons, wet the cloths thoroughly and wring out before disposing in the rubbish.
