Lord of the Rings, King Kong and The Last Samurai didn't just have multi-million dollar budgets in common, they also shared a common use of Resene paints and colours to decorate a myriad of sets and props.
A supplier to the industry for some years, Resene has learnt to tip technology on its head creating specialised coatings that will create thick ridges in paint, aged effects, and encourage the growth of mould, problems that normally cause paint chemists recurring nightmares.
Having tackled the weird and wonderful, the paint chemists focused their attention on a range of set colours commonly used by professional set designers and painters to create the Environmental Choice approved Resene FilmPro waterborne range of professional set paint, incorporating a range of colours, reduction and clear bases and specialist digital green and digital blue finishes. The new range may be intermixed or reduced to ensure the set professional can deliver exactly the colour the director demands for the perfect backdrop to their scene.
Resene FilmPro professional set paint is a tough 100% acrylic flat finish designed to colour and enhance sets. With excellent intercoat and substrate adhesion, the Resene FilmPro range includes a selection of vibrant colours commonly used on sets, including Digital Blue and Digital Green, and Reduction and Clear bases to enable set designers to blend products to suit their projects.
Resene FilmPro Clear Base is a clear coating used to increase the transparency of pigmented Resene FilmPro colours. Adding Resene FilmPro Clear Base reduces colour opacity while retaining most of the original clarity of the colour. Resene FilmPro Clear Base may also be used by itself as a clear finish.
Resene FilmPro Reduction Base is a translucent white base used to reduce and lighten pigmented Resene FilmPro colours. Adding Resene FilmPro Reduction Base increases colour opacity while the colour is lightened. The lightening effect gives a cleaner finished colour than using a pure white solid paint. Resene FilmPro Reduction Base may also be used by itself to impart a translucent white finish.

Safe and easy to use, the complete Resene FilmPro range is Environmental Choice approved. Environmental Choice is a programme endorsed by the Minister for the Environment. It is aimed at improving the quality of the environment by minimising the adverse environmental impacts generated by the production, distribution, use and disposal of products. Improved working environments lead to improved concentration levels and a greater feeling of well-being for users, as well as placing less stress on the body's natural defenses. Improvements in the quality of the working environment benefit those who are most at risk through handling the product every day. Compliance to the heavy metal requirements of the Environmental Choice Programme, as practised by Resene for over 30 years, also avoids possible poisoning of people, animals, food chains and environment.
The Resene FilmPro range is complemented by an extensive range of coatings, paints and stains for interior and exterior surfaces, available in thousands of colours from the Resene Total Colour System online library.
Creating just the effect you are after is easy with thousands of Resene colours and a myriad of Resene finishes to choose from. In addition to a full range of gloss, semi-gloss, satin, low sheen and flat paints, the Resene range includes many other finishes:
Resene FX Metallic is available for interior and exterior work and includes a dazzling range of standard metallic colours or we can create a colour match to your sample. See the Resene Metallics & Special Effects colour chart for a range of colours. Wood stains, such as Resene Waterborne Woodsman, Resene Kwila Timber Stain, Resene Furniture and Decking Oil and Resene Colorwood, will enhance timber surfaces on sets while still allowing the natural timber grain to show through.
Clear finishes, such as Resene Multishield+ waterborne glaze, Resene Aquaclear waterborne urethane and a range of solventborne clears are ideal to protect and enhance timber or to protect a painted surface. Resene Thickening Agent, custom made for set designers, creates ridges in paint giving a weathered paint finish, reminiscent of layers of aged paint.
Resene Paint Effects adapt to suit your style - simply change the application technique and create a whole new finish. Ragged, stippled, dragged, antiqued and limewash effects can be created with the easy to work Resene Paints Effects Medium. Order the Resene Paints Effects brochure for information.
