Local Marlborough Interests
Background to mural creation:
The Hub of Renwick is a new business operating in the small town
of Renwick, a town of approximately 2000-3000 people situated
in the heart of the Marlborough wine country. The Hub saw a need
within their community to market the local interests, themselves
in particular with their newly formed tourist operation and jet
boat tours on the Wairau River. The Hub also run a visitor centre
independent of any other information centre including taking bookings
for many local attractions, plus they run an art and craft gallery
featuring artists from the local area. Summer has captured all
of these activities in her mural work together with showing off
the beauty of the area.
The mural, the first ever completed by artist Summer, features
a wheel on the wall with activities that can be enjoyed in Marlborough
depicted between each spoke and is designed to attract visitors
to the information centre and art gallery and to brighten up Renwick.
The finished mural has brightened up Renwick considerably, so
much so that the tenants in the next office have approached Summer
to do some work on their wall.
The business now plans to use the mural in its marketing materials.
