Background to mural creation:
This mural represent important aspects of who we are and what we stand for. Students are taught to be courageous learners, therefore the school motto Kia Maia – Have Courage is front and centre.
The tree represents the three areas of the school – Kahikatea juniors, Kauri middle school and Kowhai seniors.
The border around the middle circle represents the connection our Kura has to Ngati Haua, our local iwi.
The four red triangles represent the four maunga that are in each corner of this land.
The left hand board shows students looking out towards the gates, looking out for and welcoming in newcomers to the school.
The board on the right represents our school and wider community looking over and helping to care for the students.
The objects in the borders were drawn by students based on the things important to their culture.
