Background to mural creation:
To involve the students in learning about design and painting of the murals, and for the artist, principal and students to collaborate in developing ideas, to tell stories of past, present and future, exploring land use over time, and the idea of the impending expressway (and SH1 and railway) as 'taniwha'. The golden sun expresses our hopes for a bright future, and replanting of trees and habitat for fish and bird life.
