Mural theme:
Our treasured community.
Background to mural creation:
After the region’s earthquakes, the school was left with a lot of plywood covering areas awaiting repairs. It was decided a beautiful, colourful mural would give the school and community a morale boost after some difficult and stressful times. The students wanted to take treasured parts/activities of the local environment and present them in a panoramic work.
The students consciously chose not to depict any buildings in the mural as they felt regardless of the buildings lost or damaged, the community was still strong and functional.
The murals were painted by the whole school and it was a very enjoyable and memorable activity, which was so desperately needed in a year of challenges.
