Background to mural creation:
Pukenui School students have painted five mural which shore that they care for the beaches, community and environment. The school is near the very top of the North Island, in the middle of the east and west coasts. The murals are of 90mile beach, Pukenui wharf, Pukenui Fishing Club wharf, Houhora Heads and 90 mile beach looking south. Students have painted themselves into the murals doing things they love. The portraits are painted in black and white to recognise the ‘old days’, because whanau enjoyed doing these same activities too. The hope is to remind everyone that we all need to continue to look after our special places so we can keep enjoying them for many years to come.
