Mural theme:
Haere Ake Ra (Onwards and Upwards) – the school motto.
Background to mural creation:
This mural was created to encourage the students to think creatively and expand their artistic skills by visually connecting the school to local geographical taonga (treasures). We wanted to inspire people by telling a story of growth and new beginnings as we embark on a journey in all aspects of life. As you embrace this journey, making your way along the river the sun sets symbolising that the day is ending and that it is time for a new beginning. The Tararua ranges represent the challenges you will face, showing use that life isn’t always easy, however if we keep persevering and striving for excellence we will eventually reach our destination – at the top of the hills for all the world to see! We used symbolic patterns and colours to represent our ideas.
