Mural theme:
Birds of a Feather.
Background to mural creation:
Over the last 2 years the school has developed their own wetlands area and has focused on the birds, fauna and flora of the area. This area was once used by the local iwi as a bird hunting area. They have created programmes to rejuvenate the birdlife and bush areas. The mural was created to signify the bird life of the area in conjunction with bird carvings done around the same time.
Each child throughout the school created their own feather. Each was individually designed by the child then painted by themselves. No help was given other than supervision and direction on how to mix colours and paint onto the wood. Each feather was sanded by each child and prepared for painting. Each feather is made from wood and fixed onto the wall (also painted in Resene paint) to create the wing.
