Celebrating our school, Havelock North Intermediate, turning 40 years old, 1974 – 2014.
Background to mural creation:
The PTA sponsored the creation of a mural to celebrate the school turning 40 years old. Top artists were chosen from the students to design and create the mural. All students were invited to submit an application as well as examples of their artwork to be considered for this project. Students were fortunate to learn skills from parent Brendon Blair, a talented local artist, who designed and led the students to create a stunning visual archive for the school.
The students researched school archives, magazines and yearbooks as well as interviewing past and present students and staff to learn about the history of the school so that key milestones and school attributes could be visually portrayed.
The mural visually depicts the school’s journey and was used as a backdrop to the school production 40 years ‘Back to the beginning’.
