Background to mural creation:
The mural was created to inspire the children to be more aware and respectful of natural resources and to strengthen their ‘knowing’ that they are one with the universe.
Discussions were held with local Kaumatua and Kuia to ensure local history and landmarks were captured in the design. Stories were shared about the significance of the streams that flow from underneath Maunga Putahi and the interdependency between the various whanau and hapu.
