Carpark, First Street, Landsdowne, Masterton.
Accessible to public:
Maori settlement 1800s – 1900s.
Background to mural creation:
This mural was commissioned by the Landsdowne Residents Association to complement a previous mural (Landsdowne circa 1900) painted in 2017 with mainly European influence.
The mural shows what life was like at the time, after settlement of the area by both Maori and Europeans.
While Max found it tricky to find relevant information to ensure the mural was relevant and realistic, Mike Kawana of the Rangitane iwi helped provide lots of useful information to ensure the mural is historically correct.
While the art is intended to stay in its current location, it is painted over three panels so can be removed and relocated to another location if required.
