A home office doesn’t have to be stuffy and boring. Take inspiration from the bold colour combo Debra Yearsley dreamed up for the work space in her Auckland home. She wanted it to be bright, vibrant and mentally stimulating.

“My office was cold and uninviting. It needed hotting up with a warm colour. Resene Smitten is a gorgeous fuchsia that makes me smile every time I enter the room,” she says.

The starting point for Debra’s colour scheme was the floral rug she bought on Trade Me. The white lacquered furniture from Freedom and The Look finishes off the stunning room decor.

• Need some energy in the morning? Add a splash of bright colour to rooms you pass through during your morning routine to help get you up and going.

• If you aren’t brave enough to do a whole room in your favourite colour, pick out one feature wall or apply it to canvases, furniture and frames.
