Sarah Smale, from Nelson, was always on the lookout for an authentic ‘duck-egg blue’, and she found it in Resene Paris White. She used it in a bedroom before also painting her house’s exterior with it.
Sarah’s inspiration was the Akaroa library, also painted this colour. “It is an early building, like our house,” she says. “I used colours in keeping with the Victorian period. It is a subtle backdrop for the garden and is pale, so survives Nelson’s hot sun. I used this colour in other houses we have restored.” “I prefer soft, calming shades as background colours,” she says.
By using Resene Paris White, the owner of this house has stayed in keeping with the era in which it was built.
Tip Older homes can be wonderfully redecorated using hues of the era of the home. The Resene Heritage colour chart has common heritage colours that are ideal for a wide range of homes. Order a chart free online from the Resene website or get a copy at any Resene ColorShop.
Tip If you plan to paint outside consider using one of the Resene Cool Colours, which are formulated with special pigment technology that reflects more of the sun’s energy than standard colours. This will help keep the surface and your home cooler.
