A vibrant colour scheme makes this coastal home this month’s Your Home & Garden Resene Colour Home Awards winner

Lorraine and Warren Spiers of Whangarei Heads looked at all the colour options when painting their new home – all the colours that is, except, the neutrals. “I don’t like beige – what’s the point?” says Lorraine.

Instead they’ve chosen a vibrant palette with Resene ‘Blue Stone’ for their weatherboards, Resene ‘Violent Violet’ for the window frames, Resene ‘Meteor’ for the porthole windows and Resene Bird Flower for three architectural apertures and the soffits beneath the roof, which is COLORSTEEL® ‘Coral Red’. The deck balustrades are painted Resene Woodsman ‘Rustic Cedar’ and the decking itself is Resene Woodsman ‘Limed Gum’.

The eye-catching house is hidden from street view but still earned the wrath of the neighbours, who complained to the local regional council. However, the council officers decided they liked what they saw. “They thought it was marvellous,” Lorraine laughs.

“It’s a house that feels good and we never get tired of the colour.”
