The Auckland Regional Council have established an annual Paint the Drains program, encouraging schools around the Auckland Region to decorate the area around stormwater drains to remind all who pass by that they drain straight to streams and waterways.
Each school is given a set of variously coloured bright paints from Resene to create their masterpieces. The resulting artworks are as varied as they are colourful, each underpinned by a very positive and educational message.
If you want to paint your own paint the drain messages, we normally recommend Resene solid colour testpots (or small pots of Resene Lumbersider). These are ideal as they are exterior grade paint and available in a huge range of colours. They are suitable for use by children and adults. Cover the drain while the painting is being done so no paint can accidentally go down the drain. If the drain is in a high foot traffic area then consider using Resene Non-Skid Deck & Path, which is a slip resistant finish.
