Update your child’s room with a wall mural

Update your child’s room with a wall mural

Whether you're preparing for a new addition to your family or you're simply looking for new decorating ideas for your child's bedroom or rumpus room, now might be the time to think outside the box.

Wallpaper and bright paint can be a great way to bring character into a room, but why not take it one step further with a wall mural?

The murals are available in a range of styles, from racing cars, fairy princesses and mermaids to pirates, dragons and horses. For the really little ones, there are several different cartoon-style nursery images that would be a great addition to a baby's room.

You could even bring an educational element to the room, with a map of the world plastered across one wall.

A mural can be an easy and effective way of brightening up a room and bringing it to life. Once it's installed, you can furnish the rest of the space simply and let the image be the focal point.

Keep the rest of your furnishings neutral to really let the wall take centre stage. Or pick out a neutral colour from the mural to use for adjacent walls and a mid tone colour for drawers and accessories so everything works well together.

Installation of the murals is easy, as each picture comes in panels. Just make sure you take your time to place the first panel on the wall, as this will dictate where the rest of the pieces will go.

Use a soft cloth to remove excess paste from each piece after you attach it to the wall, and don't let too much time to pass before you put the next piece up. The panels dry and contract once they are on the wall, so move quickly to ensure the squares line up.

Wall murals come in a variety of designs and more are released regularly. As your child grows you can replace an existing wall mural with a new favourite.
