When I first started at Resene in the late 1980’s, one of my tasks was to help produce a small publication somewhat grandiosely called “The Resene News”.

Some of you may recall a colourful, four-page update featuring stories about a new ColorShop opening in Upper Hutt, a product called Resene X-200 being released and more than a few colourful projects by New Zealand Architects.

While it’s probably a relief to many that we stopped producing The Resene News, it did leave a gap however, so a few years back we launched ‘BlackWhite’ magazine to help us continue a dialogue with New Zealand’s design community.

To be honest, it didn’t really live up to its promise, being overly wordy, lacking in focus and was also difficult to read.

So, we stopped, had a cup of tea, asked for your opinions and tried again.

The result is what you now have in your hands. What I hope, is that you will find a publication that will better serve and be of more interest to design professionals. Sure there are a few ‘paint stories’, but you should find them to be relevant paint stories.

Resene is a New Zealand business that traverses most of our country’s design, building and construction sectors and blackwhite will support this by showcasing other industry partnerships, with BRANZ featuring in this issue.

We will also profile architects and designers and bring you interesting snippets from around the world. I hope you will indulge me a bit of nostalgia in this issue, as we celebrate our 80th year manufacturing in New Zealand.

Our commitment is for blackwhite and its related EDM (e-newsletter) to be relevant, topical and interesting. If not, please let us know, we value your feedback.
