This fabulous fireworks painting is easy to create using a selection of coloured glitters and Resene paints.

Resene kids art with Mark Rayner - Project 73

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Craft glitter in the following colours: Dark blue, light blue, medium blue and silver, Paintbrushes (including an artists’ brush) Piece of hardboard, Pot for mixing, Resene Art Action glaze (gloss), Resene Quick Dry primer undercoat, Resene Testpot of Resene Nero

Top tip: If you don’t have any hardboard simply use a piece of cardboard or thin MDF.

Here's another idea: This swirling space painting was made in the same way using blue, silver and red glitter over a base of Resene Optimist.

Step 1
Step one
Paint the piece of hardboard with one coat of Resene Quick Dry and allow to dry for two hours.
Step 2
Step two
Paint the hardboard with two coats of Resene Nero, allowing two hours for each coat to dry
Step 3
Step three
Mix a little Resene Art Action glaze with some dark blue glitter and paint onto the hardboard in an exploding ‘fireworks’ pattern. Allow two hours to dry and then repeat using medium blue glitter. Allow two hours to dry

Step four
Repeat step three using light blue glitter and silver glitter, allowing two hours for each coat to dry. What a cracker!
