Striped abstract

Combine Resene Sandtex with a contrasting two colour stripe to create this stunning textured wall panel.

Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 41

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: MDF or plywood panel (ours measured approximately 775mm x 500mm), masking tape, paintbrushes, Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Paua, Resene Multishield+ gloss (now Resene Concrete Clear), Resene Quick Dry waterborne primer undercoat, Resene Sandtex Mediterranean effect, Resene Testpots of Resene Bullion and Resene Porsche, tape measure.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat waterborne enamel tinted to Resene Frangipani.

Other ideas: For a bold red and green combination try Resene Adrenalin Junkie and Resene Japanese Laurel.

Step 1
Step one
Prime the panel with one coat of Resene Quick Dry and allow to dry for two hours.
Step 2
Step two
Paint the panel with one coat of Resene Sandtex Mediterranean effect, applying the paint using a stippling technique to create texture. Leave to dry for two hours.
Step 3
Step three
Apply two coats of Resene Paua to the panel, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 4
Step four
Mask off a random combination of horizontal stripes. Ours measured approximately 25mm, 50mm, 100mm and 150mm.
Step 5
Step five
Paint alternate stripes with two coats of Resene Porsche, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 6
Step six
Apply one coat of Resene Bullion, brushing along the line of the stripe as shown. Allow two hours to dry and then apply a second coat of Resene Bullion.
Step 7
Step seven
Carefully remove the masking tape and allow the second coat of Resene Bullion to dry for two hours.
Step 8
Step eight
Apply one coat of Resene Multishield+ (now Resene Concrete Clear) gloss to the panel and allow to dry for two hours.
