Use this simple pouring technique to create a fabulous marbled abstract painting.
Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 107
Difficulty level: Moderate
To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Paua.
Other ideas: Create a stylish blue marbled effect by using a combination of Resene blacks, blues and whites.
Step one
Prime the piece of MDF with one coat of Resene Quick Dry and allow to dry.
Step two
Use the craft knife to cut a 12mm square in the base of the plastic pot and cover this with a piece of duct tape, as shown.
Step three
Carefully pour the testpot of Resene Alabaster into the plastic pot.
Step four
Slowly pour the testpot of Resene Bright Spark on top of the Alabaster, and then follow this with the testpots of Resene Bowie and Resene Chaos. Take care to disturb the paint on the layer below as little as possible.
Step five
In the same way, follow this with the testpots of Resene Green Pea, Resene Cabaret and Resene Prussian Blue.
Step six
In the same way, slowly pour the testpot of Resene Adrenalin, followed by the testpots of Resene Lochmara and Resene Dizzy Lizzy.
Step seven
Place four of the used testpots onto the drop cloth and then place the piece of MDF on top, ensuring that it’s level. Hold the plastic pot over the centre and remove the piece of tape, allowing the paint to pour evenly onto the MDF.
Step eight
Discard the plastic pot and move the piece of MDF at angles to allow the paint to flow across the surface. Once completely covered, place the MDF back on the four used testpots. Allow paint to dry and then fit the painting into the picture frame.
