Serendipity - Nelson Haven bed and breakfast

The result of an extensive refurbishment programme, Serendipity, a new boutique Bed & Breakfast sits proudly atop the Port Hills above Nelson Haven.

Nelson Haven Bed and Breakfast

First built in the 1880s, the home is large and imposing. Originally occupying 7 acres, the house has been built with care to take advantage of the stunning panoramic views. The present owners fell in love with this character home and the site when they first saw it over the internet. A quick flight from Wellington and the reality turned out to be even more appealing with the sale completed just two days later.

Turning the much-loved family home into a Boutique Bed & Breakfast was relatively simple. The scale and layout of the rooms allowed ensuites to be developed within the existing structure of the house. Plumbing and bathroom facilities were modernised with the assistance of local tradespeople.

The interior colour palette, including Resene Dairy Cream (orange cream), Resene Como (mid green), Resene Pearl Lusta (warm off white), Resene Echo Blue (soft blue), Resene Spring Rain (soft green), Resene Sea Nymph (blue green), Resene Quarter Rock Blue (soft blue) and Resene White, was selected with care to emphasise the Victorian features of the house. Resene Zylone Sheen washable wallpaint was used throughout the interior envelope complemented by Resene Ceiling Paint on ceiling areas, and Resene Lusta-Glo semi-gloss enamel on woodwork and in wet areas for maximum toughness in a semi-gloss finish.

Not to be outdone, the exterior envelope features a palette of Resene Karaka (deep muddy green), Resene Tasman (light blue), Resene Pewter (green grey), Resene Alabaster (slight off white) and Resene Corduroy (green) in high gloss Resene H-Glo, complemented by Resene Enamacryl gloss waterbased enamel on trim and joinery, and Resene Sidewalk paving paint on verandah decks. Resene staff assisted with colour scheme recommendations for the home's exterior.

The finished effect is a delightful blend of old and new, creating a sense of homeliness and balance. All the aesthetics of historic architecture blended with the benefits of modern technology results in accommodation with style. Relax and enjoy!
