Frank Amour's shed
Famous to all Taranaki residents, Frank Amour's shed has been the subject of over sixty newspaper articles in the last year let alone the hundreds that have likely been written over the full thirty years the saga has ensued.
Frank's residence was perceived as an eyesore by all neighbours and the council, with the only party seemingly oblivious being Frank himself and a handful of avid supporters.
Keen to bring the ongoing battle to a timely resolution, Resene stepped in as mediator offering to help resolve the dispute by supplying sufficient paint to recoat the structure thus appeasing Frank, the neighbours and the council in one fell swoop. The only proviso imposed by Resene was that the neighbours and Frank had to mutually approve the colour scheme, otherwise the whole saga was destined to be a neverending story.
To give everyone a voting chance a quick photo was taken of the structure and recoloured electronically in schemes designed by Resene New Plymouth staff using the Resene RenderRite service.
Colour scheme 1 for Frank's shed. Based on the proposed new look, the New Plymouth District Council voted overwhelmingly to allow the kiwi battler to keep one of the protuberances on the front of his shed, contrary to their legal agreement. Even Frank's neighbours whom for years had fought to have the protuberance demolished supported the retention of it mainly due to the unveiling of the shed painting plans.
Pleased that the saga is at an end, the council can refocus on other business, the neighbours can enjoy the new look from the comfort of their homes, and Frank can go back to focusing on finishing his boat in his freshly painted surrounds without fear of his home requiring further modification.
All up, a convincing win-win-win all round!
