Mark Rayner recreates a Van Gogh masterpiece to enjoy outdoors.
To get the look: Mark used a detail from Van Gogh’s famous 'A Wheatfield, with Cypresses' as inspiration.
You will need:
Step one
Copying from the art book, trace a rough outline of the trees and landscape with a pencil.
Step two
Using an old knife, build up layers of filler on the landscape to create a 3D effect and texture. Leave to dry overnight.
Step three
Paint with one coat of Resene Quick Dry Acrylic Undercoat Primer. Allow to dry.
Step four
Fill in the sky with Resene Spring Green, the clouds with Resene Paris White, background hills with Resene Jasper, trees with Resene Holly, hedges with Resene Green Pea, and fields with Resene Fire Bush.
Step five
While the paint is still wet, fill in texture to the sky with Resene Padua, and add detail to the clouds with Resene Bounty and Resene Polo Blue mixed with Resene Alabaster. Add texture to the background hills with Resene Cobalt and Resene Polo Blue.
Step six
Add detail to the trees and hedges with Resene Black, Resene Bush and Resene Envy. Add texture to the fields with Resene Rusty Nail and a little Resene Paris White.
Step seven
Add a few highlights to the trees and sky with Resene Padua. Once dry paint the edges and back of the panel with two coats of Resene Black.
Step eight
Apply three coats of Resene Concrete Clear to the front and edges of the panel to bring out the colours.
